The North Carolina Veterans Park was conceived by the State to honor all North Carolinians who have served in the five branches of the military. In partnership with the City of Fayetteville, the site is downtown and shares the campus of the Airborne and Special Operations Museum developed by the U.S. Army a decade earlier. The expanded park is an important gathering space for large, formal veterans events as well as small, informal group and family outings. To support this mission, it is organized as a series of outdoor rooms that celebrate the lives of citizens prior to enlistment, their time during military service, and their stories as veterans return home.

The Visitors Center is a small 3,500 sf facility with a significant program that belies its modest size. Located at the entry to the park, it provides welcoming and orientation by a staffed volunteer. Its support core provides restrooms, a catering/staging area, a small administrative office, and mechanical spaces. Its 2,000 sf exhibit area, which looks out over the park, is designed to be extremely flexible to house a broad range of programming, events and exhibits which support the mission of the park.
