The Elizabeth City Opera House is the revitalization of an early 20th Century historic theater into a multi-use visual and performing arts center. The structure contains a second floor theater space that was severely damaged several years ago when a main wood truss spanning the central space collapsed due to wood decay.

Following the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation in order for the building to qualify for the Federal and State Historic Investment Tax Credits, the revitalization design is restoring this building to its early 20th Century splendor. The ground floor will become a visual arts gallery and public gathering space used by the Arts Council. The second floor theater will be the home of a well established local theater company as well as touring groups.
