As the County’s first library in an urban setting and one of the key elements of Cary’s continuing downtown renaissance, Cary Regional Library is a unique public-private partnership between Wake County, Town of Cary, and a private developer.  The stately library serves as the ceremonial front door to a mixed use complex with a downtown parking deck and what will become downtown’s first significant multifamily development.

Cary Regional Library represents a significant departure from previous development projects in Cary.  Clearscapes worked closely with the Town council and staff throughout the design process to establish goals, define expectations, and to ensure buy-in from the community.

The library is strategically sited across from the Cary Art Center to create a civic gateway, provide a backdrop for the town’s new outdoor performance space, and to conceal a 600-space parking deck to serve library and arts center patrons and visitors to the downtown business district.  The elegant design speaks to both the town’s past and its future - referencing the historic art center across the street while setting a new design standard for future development.

As one of the largest libraries in Wake County, the facility features a large central skylight and expansive glass walls overlooking the Town Square and the future Downtown Park.  Since its opening on November 3rd, the library has already become a popular destination for downtown residents and visitors.
